Big addition to index for Billion Graves Index at FamilySearch.org

Billion Graves, Find a Grave – these are both helpful websites for the Family Historian.

Did you know that Billion Graves is a partner with FamilySearch?  – so their index is included in the Historical Records collection at FamilySearch.org.

This week FamilySearch announced the addition of over 400,000 names to the Billion Graves Index!  Isn’t that great!

If you find an ancestor in the Billion Grave index at FamilySearch it will link you to the Billion Grave website to see the image.

Are there any Canadian cemeteries included in Billion Graves?  Medicine Hat certainly is . . . and if your cemetery isn’t included then perhaps you should organize a trip to your local cemetery along with your smart phone!

Are there any just Alberta website for cemetery records?  The Alberta Family History Society has quite a collection of cemetery records on their website – 169,000! – go to http://afhs.ab.ca/data/cemeteries/search.php .  The Alberta Genealogical Society also has an extensive collection of cemetery information, but, while they have links to  searchable databases for grave markers and obituaries in parts of Alberta, the cemetery listings are not online currently.
